Which Rivet Gun?

Post by pwcphoto »

I have recently purchased a locomotive kit and the cab and tender will require a great amount of rivetting for assembly. I have never used a rivet gun before and was looking at purchasing one on ebay. They have a number or 3x and 4x types for all sorts of prices, some new, some used, some in kits with all of the required attachments and bucking bars etc...

Any comments on which type of gun would be best. Ones to stay away from etc.. I do not really know the difference between a 3x and 4x gun.

I do not have the kit yet but I think that the steel sheets are probably close to 1/8th inch thick or there abouts and it will be going into steel angles stock in the corners or something similar. The rivets would be the kind that are rounded over, not blind rivets or pop rivets.

Any help would be appreciated. I am kind of new to this stuff so hopefully I have not asked too silly of a question.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil,
You might check with Locoparts, they have everthing you need for
riviting from rivit gun to cleco kits.

Rick,

Thanks, I already bought a bunch of Clecos in various sizes and a tool so I am set there and ready to go. I didn't notice a pneumatic rivet gun on the locoparts site but I will take another look see.
