The Home Machinist!

I bought a toolbox full of misc. junk recently at a local church bazaar and included in it were 20 some-odd of these items (see atch.). I believe they are rivet-set inserts for a pneumatic rivet-squeezer. I'm strictly a hobbyist, but find rivets are quite handy for a lot of sheet metal projects around the home. I have a good quality rivet gun that uses 401 type rivet sets. Does anyone know if a 401 mount rivet-set is made commercially, that accepts these inserts?? My research on the internet turned up nothing. I could make one from drill rod, but don't have the equipment to properly heat-treat it, so it would be useless in the long term.

Not sure if they still do, or ever did, as I may have made mine from a straight set and just faced and drilled it. Don't remember.

Aircraft spruce carries the rivet sets for those tips. The hand ones are surprisingly powerful.

Get one with a yoke that is one size larger than you think you will need.
