I don't think the finished beryllium is hazardous, but with OSHA....who knows. They think Mother's milk is a carcinogen.
;)
The dust is dangerous if you breath air containing high levels of it (i.e., grinding it without ventilation) or low levels over a long period of time (i.e., you machine it for a living and take no special precautions).

The spoons were one of the many little things that my Dad had made, when he found a way to make beryllium ductile.
No worries....they weren't made for eating your frosted flakes, or even stirring your coffee.....just to show, to the Feds, that forming was possible.
They were one of the first. The things like the ashtray came later, as the process was improved.

Sorry....here in the US, we only munch on Al-u-bloody-minium.....not beryllium....
Although....beryllium is used in tooth fillings.....

You can use them to make neutron initiators for homemade atom bombs.

I use BeCu valve guides, and for a while, maybe still, it was common for valve seats in the cylinder heads of Sprint Cup cars.

Excellent heat transfer and wear characteristics.

Inhaling it is what is hazardous.

Operating machines is perfectly safe......until you forget how dangerous it really is!
