Casting partner needed

Post by chucketn »

Anyone casting Aluminum within 1 or 2 hour drive of Kingsport, TN? I would be willing to provide pigged aluminum (from lawn mower engines and other precast items) and patterns for someone to help me cast parts.
I have a complete set of Gingry Shaper patterns. I want to make a dividing head, and a base for a steady rest for my mini lathe.
I have melted aluminum before, and assisted in casting a few parts. There is no one close to me that casts metal. My former casting partner moved to Texas. I do not have a furnace or crucible.

I checked the distance and you are a little too far for my help. I am in Lester Alabama which is five hours away from you.

As you are working with Aluminum you might consider doing your own furnace.

Chuck, if you don't have your heart set on casting the dividing head, you might consider another approach. Some time ago, I mentioned a couple of my videos in the general forum about a simple and cheap dividing head.

You certainly don't need all the machines shown in my videos to build a simple dividing head. Perhaps this will give you some more options. Also on my YouTube channel is a video showing how we made a spur gear with a commercial dividing head.
