Probably one of those topics, I wish i... Anyway he was born here, just feet away. He is drawing his last breaths now. It was in the early-mid '90's he was born. Part of a special litter my once gal put together. Siamese/Balinese. He was a special little cat in the early days..very inquisitive, very smart.
He was a fostereing sort, as his momma cat (who I had as a kitten) birthed at least two more bunches of special kittens, he was like an uncle. He took over cleaning and reaming little kittens, helping the mother. Very familiy oriented, in a feline way. The whole time I've been around him, he never did anything of evil intent. When he screwed up an I scolded him, he would go around and wail until I rubbed him and showed I didn't hate him or anything and he was a good boy.
He's been to the vet a few times and was a lot of work, a bag of bones who is just old. There are reasons I didn't take him before today, one being he tended to find some place to hide away in his misery. The two of them haven't curled up and slept together in about a week. She knows. He was layed out where I found him and realised he had gone down the tubes like worse than ever. I took him to the vetinary/hospital and the person locking the door just said"we're closed today". He always liked laying in the sun so I placed him in a good spot where he'd get some sun thru the leaves and shade, with a gentle breeze. There was water but he cannot even stand for falling over. I've been wiping his eyes, a little talk and rubs. Dip my fingers in water and put to his lips. Brought him in for the flies thought he was a meal.(many of the demons were caught on fly strips. That's the last time they'll bug my little guy.) While he was out the other older buddy of his came out and stopped. She just watched him for some time. So he's back in close to everything he knew most of his life. Just taking his last breaths and dreaming. I hope they are good dreams for he deserves them.

Pets can really get to you. We lost an old cat last year, and our dog just got diagnosed with an agressive tumor - not much time left.

Better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.

Spro,

Sorry to hear of your impending loss, pets are like, no, not like, they are family and it is tough to let them go. Just lost a Jack Russell to cancer. you are doing all you can do, just show your love and keep him comfortable.

Jack.

Thanks for support my hard yet gentle friends. I read each word. I am fortunate to have those who understand these things and much worse. Irony in a way that he being a good cat, I would have a pet carrier and also a special separator that fit my vehicle. Since that was stolen from my little space between two fences beyond my back porch in the raid I described last year. Because of that, the ailing fellow wasn't able to travel with me recently. I had to take him to the vet in a cardboard box. Perfect. The same county that fines and steals will do nothing about the infestation of raccoons and possums and the high grass around empty properties. My cat certainly didn't bring fleas upon himself by laying in a little area. Since he was already feeble he was attacked by fleas and flies.I squished at least 30 off him recently. Now he's in the house for the racoons would tear him apart during the night. So now I have to bomb the house. TMI . Best leave it there.

Spro, I have Empathy for your loss. Momma Rose and I have many fur kids, and they envelope our lives and hearts dailly. It always leaves a hole when one passes over the bridge.

I think I will have many faces waiting for me, when I walk that last path.

Dave. I especially know that you who have experienced much lately still have that empathy. Once before I said to what you alluded to. There was a time when the idea of dog heaven or cat heaven was accepted then later dicarded. They don't have souls, after all. Yet the innocence within us, like the child we were, remembers what we thought Heaven would be. It would have all these creatures, gifts, flowers and trees. I could go real stupid real fast and should stop. But our friend's Jack Russell or any number of other creatures we are temporarily custody of, sometimes cross a divide. My old cat is going in and out of consciousness and dreaming. There is little of his dreams that don't include me or this place. When he leaves he will have a purr conscience. I hope to do as well.

Russ. I hope that tumor is defeated or some way this isn't what it looks. Man it goes both ways.

This is the last for little Freddy has passed. He was stiff when I saw him this morning just where I last petted him earlier. Little fellow was anyway... his ole buddy layed just the other side of a door which wasn't latched and she could've walked thru at anytime. She layed there thru the morning and even urinated where she lay on that old mat. She never actually saw him dead yet she knows. This is a different day for her for sure. She was outside awhile and got some attention and had a good thirst for water. These two were together since about 1995 and she was adult when he was a kitten. Gonna have to watch her.... :|

It is my experience that animals can mourn in a way. They certainly know when a part of their social world changes. They are not so much interested in 'things' or posessions as we humans are, but have a keen sense of world and social order.

I have been owned by many Cats, and enjoy the association.

I am always touched by their loss.

May you keep the memories alive and comforting in your years.

Spro, my sympathy for your loss. I am very attached to one of cats, a young male who came to us as half a pair of abandons. Smart, inquisitive, affectionate like no animal I have ever had before. He greets me at the door each evening, even showers with me. I am so attached to this guy I am already dreading the day, though it's many years in the future.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. I have 5 that never go outside as if they got hit by a car, it wouldn't be a good scene.
Each year they anxiously await the warmer weather so they can watch all the other insects, birds, squirrels etc etc.
Sure, they are a bit of work but well worth it. I am not good with death........

Again, very sorry to hear of him passing.
