Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
Canned Acetone is more expensive than gasoline. Like Ethanol, it changes the air fuel mix. Ethanol and most additves lower fuel milage. As noted, a temporary shot in the fuel may clean the system of disolvable junk, clean injectors etc. But Acetone is degrading for a lot of rubber and plastic parts even if fuel rated.
IMHO I would have to have a lot of proven information, as the ads claim miracle milage. So at the end of each trip, I would have to drain off some to remove all the saved gas. I am a serious non-believer.

Good Morning Dave.
Thanks for your opinion.
I to, am some what skeptical, and in need of more
proof. I also like to put it out for discussion like this
for other minds to ponder.

Changing the air filter and adding air to the tires is a sure way to invalidate tests of a fuel additive's usefulness and a sign of a non-scientist.
Populer Mechanics reviewed a few varieties of Snake Oil
The EPA tests supposed fuel saving ideas and reports the result.
Here is a pretty decent explanation:
"If adding acetone increases fuel efficiency by even 10% that means that 10% more of the fuel is being burned, which in turn means that without acetone no more than 90% of the fuel is burning, and 10% is being exhausted as unburned hydrocarbons. This is demonstrably not true. Most cars already have a combustion efficiency of > 98%. Therefore there is very little room for improvement, and any claim for more than a 1-2% increase in efficiency by this method is simply not plausible. Further, gasoline and diesel already have a very low surface tension – so there isn’t much room for improvement there."

Which brings us to the suitable response; if it sounds too good to be true than it is probably is.
I worked for an oil company for years; it was a common rumor that we had a warehouse full of 200 mpg carburators bought up to keep them off of the market; sorry, not true.

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
To all the skeptics above ...I agree!... Plus we have all seen what acetone can do to plastics and rubber so I would not use it regularly in the fuel tank, in fact even a one use to "clean" the system is risky. If you have ever dipped a disassembled carb in acetone to clean it, as I have been doing for years , you will see some of the deposits come off but not all. The "varnish" comes off ok, but there's not much of that anymore since ethanol was added. The other deposits seem impervious to solvents. I think the new "white/tan" deposits are related to the water that now resides on your fuel due to the ethanol's affinity to H2o. I say this because I'm familiar with removing calcium/lime deposits and acid will remove them. but attacks the carb parts as well.

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
Probably works as well to improve mileage, as the super-duper gasoline fuel line magnets do......only with the potential to do some real damage.

I knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who had this great pill. Drop it in your tank, fill it with tap water and you'd be good to go.
Oh, wait. This isn't the first of April, huh?
Nevermind!

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
My dad told me of the 'bait and switch' guys that plied the County fairs and gatherings with such nostrums. With the hit and run tactics, they were mostly found quickly and run out of town. But Ya know a fool and his money....
Fuel pills were added to a can of water, or water with a quart of gas on top, so a sample was taken and burned right in front of your eyes. A true huckster had you believe, and by the time your distillate tractor didn't run they were far away..
The dirty thirties was a time of hardship, and many swindles went on. In the days of rough roads, the farm kids would haul barrels of water down to the swale in the road by the creek, and early Saturday, when Ma, and Pa went to town, (an all day affair) would work the road into a mire. Then setting the egg sign out by the highway, wait like a spider to snare the unwary. With the team hitched up, they would pull the hapless motorist out of the soup, to continue on looking for the non-existant eggs. I think they pirated a dollar at the time, a handsome sum for the day. The enterprising kids often made as much as the 'ol man made in a week.
Its a good tale anyway.

As an adjunct to the fuel pills and strap-on fuel line magnets to energize your gasoline, better get one these too: http://www.tornadoair.com/
These were popular when we had the last Arab oil embargo.

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On This.
Years ago, I added all of those gas saving and efficiency devices to my '86 GMC 1 ton pickup, four wheel drive. Had to remove them, as the engine, which originally yielded around 10 MPG (with a stiff tail wind) was now running so efficiently that I ran out of storage for the gas I was continually draining from the tank.
Who needs that inconvenience?

HV- Ya tryin' to hijack my joke?
Its a good joke tho, being highly improbable.
When I used to deliver motor homes, I did a gas calculation on my towed Escort. It got 1200 miles to the gallon on that check. If only it were true.
