6 grand is a bargain. I'd expect at least 24K to replace a main to the street, and that does not even address getting the main under the house and tying all the lines into it.

I feel for people who get hammered by plumbers. The main waste line exiting my dad's house broke because a huge lawnmower traveled over it. I believe he paid $3000 to get it fixed. I could have done it myself with rented tools in about a day, and the only materials I would have needed would have been a few bits of PVC pipe.

I should have discouraged my dad from using the plumber, but at the time, he was a real bear to discuss home repairs with, so I stayed out of it.

Its a sewer line.
No need to thread and replace.
Lots of rubber couplings now days.
I would cut like you said out of the ground and replace as much as I could with PVC.
And install a cleanout at the ground level
