I have a pair of pliers with red plastic handles (feel a bit soft like a rubber) and they have this black magic marker type stain/mark on both handles. It really craps them up. I've tried the following chemicals to remove the marks: ink remover, WD-40, rubbing alcohol, acetone, baking soda, lighter fluid, lacquer thinner, xylene, goo gone, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, clorox bleach, oxalic acid, vinegar, oxy-clean soak for several hours, an acid based -- nothing removes the marks. Never had such a hard time removing a stain. Any suggestions?

Carefully go over them with a magic marker so that they are entirely black.

If soaking them in DNA won't do it, I have no ideas.

It's probably soaked in, so that's why it won't come off

When they first came out with the Dry Erase markers I brought one home from work, with the war dept. watching I made a swipe at our telephone, grabbed a towel and said, " No prob, watch this". That phone ended up in my shop, and the new $150.00 model took it's place. Some years later i repeated that story to my neighbor, he sprayed it with OFF (the mosquito repellant) and it came right off.

May try the red rubbing compound used on oxidized car paint.

When we had a dry erase white board that had been left too long with marker on it the solution was to wipe it down with mayonnaise then clean both the marker and the mayo off with a paper napkin. This had the advantage that all the stuff was available in the cafeteria and nobody had to update the list of chemicals in lab use.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

No, I never did get to try some of those last few suggestions. But what I did was to return the item to the seller and purchased a second identical tool, for a $1.43 less and in much better condition. I guess you don't always get what you pay for, but, sometimes you get more, as in this instance.

 I love it...

I also think John is right; I doubt you'll ever get the color out.
