Maybe Steve can find a video of the old Western 'SHANE' and see how Van Heflin and Alan Ladd did it.

The "household chemicals" were for me, not the stumps.

I now have a subsoiler, and I installed a Pat's Easy Hitch kit on my tractor so I can actually change implements.

The subsoiler surprised me. It's supposed to be a small one, but it probably weights 70 pounds.

I have some friends (i.e. free forced labor) visiting, so we may try to remove the rock tomorrow.

They take a tremendous beating and strain, so they tend to be made very heavy. My "implement bar" alone ways close 2 70 lbs with the hollow 2" bar (1/4" wall square tube) in place. With the longer solid bar (6' of 2" solid steel bar), it's got to be north of 150. And the subsoiler shank is something like 1" thick x 4"+ wide and maybe 2.5' long. The bolts are all 3/4" and 1" IIRC. And that's sized (originally) to a larger B than mine, way over kill for me. So 70 lbs isn't a heavy subsoiler at all...

But that said, a 70 lb subsoiler (if that's the whole thing, including 3 point frame) behind that L of yours may not last long. Just guessing, but I expect it might be a bit light even on my B2150.

Here's the rock. I attached the subsoiler today and ripped it out. In one direction, it wouldn't even move. I think it was stuck on a root and whatever else is down there. I turned 90 degrees, and it popped right out.

Thank God I had two large guys staying here this week. They rolled it into the bucket for me, and now it's part of my collection of huge landscape rocks. I would say it's maybe 30" long and 20" across. Very heavy. The bucket didn't sound happy.

I should have turned the subsoiler backward, but I was lazy. It takes some work to disengage it from a rock when the hook is pointed forward.

All in all, a good investment. I'm sure it would have cost me at least a hundred bucks to get someone else to do this, and I paid about $160 for the attachment.

If I had known you considered rocks like mine small, I would have asked you to come over and lift it.

I agree that if two guys could move it wasn't big. The construction guys around here call stones like that "rip-rap" and use them to reinforce stream banks. Still a PITA to deal with when working alone, though.

Anything under this size is laughably small.

I have already snapped my first shear bolt. I guess that proves I'm using this thing to its full potential.
