drill sharpening wheel

Post by Charles »

I too bought a drill sharpening fixture, indetical to the one shown in the Jan/Feb Home Shop Machinist Mag article. Mine is Gen tool and unused, costing a buck. Orig box no instructions. I like results better than from my Drill Dr. What kind of 6" stone should I invest in. Article suggests high quality wheel designed to grind on its side. This wheel will be dedicated to drill sharpening. Thanks. Charles

You've got it right - a "white" wheel designed for grinding on the side will run fairly cool.

I have a rental shop nearby that I deal with. When their old diamond wheels off their cement cutters wear out they gave me one and I've had great results for adding a razors edge to some of my bits and various cutting edges. I run it at 3450 and am very careful not to over heat.
