Never enough time

Re: Never enough time
Gonna be frigid here in NYC. Going for presurgical testing tomorrow and medical clearance Monday. In between, finishing some plaster in the basement , starting my shop cleanup, getting the snowblower ready. So much to do every weekend.

And I thought it was just the diabetes causing the cold feet. I use to keep the house at 68 during the winter. Not now, it's at 71 and sometimes while watching TV, I have a blanket on. Fingers don't last long in the cold either. Too many years playing with snow grooming equipment.

That's a good part of it. Blood flow through the small capillaries in the feet isn't what it was before diabetes set in. Your feet are radiating heat at their usual rate, but not enough warm blood is flooding the tissues to replace the lost heat. You can actually go hypothermic in your feet before any other part of your body is affected.rrnut-2 wrote:And I thought it was just the diabetes causing the cold feet.
It's just natural aging. Everyone eventually gets there, assuming they live long enough.I use to keep the house at 68 during the winter. Re: Never enough time
Sheesh! This thread is like singing to the choir, they know the tune and pages to see. I have a limited SS income of right at 2k per month, and with the monthlies very little play money. My play money comes form my animals, toys, and the occasional heating/AC job. This is limited by my endurance. Not good. Easier to stay home and cut wheels for a car 'abuildin than incur country expenses that can get uncontrolled.
Right now I am suffering from a lot of flawed equipment out of service, like my 12 inch planer, that has a roll pin busted when I forced the screws to adjust the height. Or the pressure washer that needs new seals, when a guy tried to adjust the engine carb, with the pump dry. (Dismount the pump to do any tune up work, then tweek when its back together with the pump wet.)
I have a stnad-up log splitter to re-engine and dont feel like getting cold. Aonther small lay down splitter awaits attention after that. .Never enough time.
Anybody looking for some top drawer paint ball gear?

We have enough youth, how about a fountain of Smart. My computer beat me at chess, but not kickboxing
It is not getting caught in the rain, its learning to dance in it. People saying good morning, should have to prove it.

I have veinous insufficiency, so my legs swell and I'm always cold . I use a heater at work near the desk. I hate the weather here, and want to retire further south, maybe Florida, where it's nicer.

Just hoping to mend fences.
Thanks for the kind words. The value of a site is really its members. Ours is really lucky. We're 501c3 , just exist to promote learning and fun ,not commercialism.
This cold is brutal. My feet are frozen . Water in carb of snow blower froze and she won't turn over. I don't want to go outside to work on it, but snow is coming.

Buy some Sorel insulated boots.
Mine are good for -40 F. Don't see anything like that since I left Alaska, but they work great if you're out in the snow or even just tramping around on the cold concrete in the shop.

I think Mary and I did have a burger or two in that place. Don't remember the name of it. The other eating place I remember was a nice restaurant called Hyerdahl's (I think). That was THE place to have Sunday afternoon meal after church. That place was mobbed in he summer and closed in the winter.

Re: Never enough time
Mysteriously, another thread is gone.
The place is Redamacs. It was buiilt like one of those log cabins and was just a roadside diner that grew a coupla times. known for their big juicy burgers and fries, they maintained their nitch over the years and through several owners and changes. They have a lot of nostalgic museum type stuff from the 40-50-'s and a lot of autographs of notables that stopped by.

Re: Never enough time
Have been spending my time puting my mailbox back together, after every snow, as the plows knock it off with trimming the road edges. Otherwise picking rocks and jawbreakers out of the drive fill installed last fall. Slow going, but a pry bar breaks the frost and another lump is gone...
I am trying to maintain some mobility since my crash last fall. Legs are terrible, and movement painful. With the cold weather I have become much the couch potato.

Re: Never enough time
The cold here is proving debilitating to me also. Old injuries become more painful in the cold. No wonder people move south. Just cleaned the carb on the snowblower and got it going. Snow will be here soon.
