It's kind of sad that I feel this great just because the computer is working normally.

This morning Windows decided I had to have 168 updates RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW!

I have had a deep distaste for Microsoft ever since they did away with DOS. But what are the alternatives? There's no way most folks are going to go with Apple because of their proprietary hardware. Anyone have any experience with Linux?

Actually I remember a rather involved discussion about os's and Linux right here. Do the search and it is as good as yesterday.

Re: Bill Gates Must Hang
I got all excited today, fixed all the cables on the new power supply, put the computer cabinet back together, and hit the switch. Then I went outside and saw that Newegg had delivered my new video card, which would allow me to use HDMI instead of VGA.
I have been working on this stupid thing for like 90 minutes. When I first tried to shut the PC down, it told me I had to wait for it to install 15 updates. No advance warning. Just a nice surprise. So I had to sit and wait and wait and wait. And of course, some updates took 8 seconds, and others took a month.
Then the PC started turning itself off and on. I think the thing I enjoyed most was when it made me wait, told me Windows was being configured, told me it was 32% done, said "Welcome," and then said, "Windows is shutting down."
After all that BS, it finally came on...at 800 x 600 resolution instead of 1300 or whatever.
I had to download a Geforce driver. Guess how big it was. I'll tell you. It was 221 MB. No, I did not forget the decimal point.
It took about 25 minutes to download, and then when I got it going on the installation, it passed the time by showing me ads for other Geforce products. Which I am now really dying to buy.
Then the installation failed, and I had to start over.
By Microsoft standards, this was a pretty good experience.

Oh, God. It was so worth it. I didn't realize the USB keyboard would work from a backpack chair on the garage floor. Here I am watching Tubalcain videos in full-screen mode. The resolution is great.

Steve, you know nVidia compiles all of their drivers into one single comprehensive driver. It's for your convenience.
