Ok, guys, I'll send the link to this thread to Marty, to see if he can lend anything to solving the mystery.

Because it's isolated, I fully expect the problem to be with each individual's computer. To my knowledge, we don't have the problem, in general.

One thing to check is that you are accessing the forum by going to chaski.org. We have had a few readers that were using a different address. Switching to .org solved the riddle.

Harold
Harold, that did it for me also, just cleared the address bar and typed it in using org, hit the link and there I was, already logged in. Simple fix.
Thanks

Welcome! Glad to hear it worked for you.

Actually, we've had this problem occasionally, but it's taken me some time to make a connection with the reason. Were it not for Mike, I'm not convinced it would have ever sunk in.

I don't know how or why, I didn't get a notice , e-mail or private message, for this PM, though they seem to be checked in PREFERENCES.

Or maybe I missed it.

Not having gotten one, I don't know what to look for.

To aid you in understanding, I'm sending you one. It won't have any contents aside from a few words, as there's no purpose aside from you becoming familiar with the feature. Look for an email notice to appear on your computer, which can then be clicked for direct access to the private message. Alternately, you can access your private messages by clicking on the button, top left hand side of the screen (again, assuming your board choice is subsilver2).

I have my preferences set to send me an email when I receive a PM from someone -- in fact, I think it's the default as I don't remember actually changing any settings.

One thing to note is that some spam filters may be catching those emails. They don't come across easily identifiable as a message from these forums either. They'll come from escarcega@cox.net and the subject line will be "New private message has arrived." I know the first time I got one of those emails I thought it was spam and just deleted it without checking.

Thanks for the comments, John. I'm so used to seeing the notice that I didn't give any thought to the idea that others may not recognize one. You may have just provided the very bit of information many need to see.

Just to add, sometimes I don't log in, hence no PM message.
Many members may encourage my not logging in or or even anonymously lurking.

There's no shortage of those who would gladly see me leave the board, but I persist.

I believe there are a lot more than just a few of us that hope you stick around.

Thanks for all you help Harold.
