Are there any HSS Ba taps and dies out there .
Most of the new Ebay are from India and well.... no matter how cheap the price is I cant make myself buy them.... Not to mention they are carbon steel...
The few used I have found are from the UK and shipping kills most deals.

I could use a 7ba tap and die... but I would be willing to buy incomplete set if it included the #7s I need...

Thanks in advance.

A Google search turned up a place in NY:
https://Britishfasteners.com

I know nothing about them, just found them in a search.

I found that site as well....
The HSS taps are $47.50.
The unlabeled taps are $7.26 So im guessing they are the same carbon steel available from India for much less.
When there is no description I tend question quality....

Thank you for the input...

Lazz,

I did a Google search -- 7ba HSS tap -- and came up with quite a few suppliers in UK offering them. I would contact them and ask where they are made ( I am not a fan of anything made in India or China as well) I don't think shipping will be as bad as you think. I just bought some large INA bearings that came through UK and the shipping was quite reasonable.

I found a UK Ebay deal that fit my needs... With shipping about $3 per tap and die... For NOS HSS name brand Presto...

I agree shipping from the UK isnt all that bad... With a daughter in Australia I have found out all about expensive shipping...

Just like here some of the UK Ebay dealers were asking big bucks to ship...

Thanks again...

Very interesting as I have recently had need for a 7BA tap and used British fasteners got the cheaper one and am very satisfied with their service. it seems even as BA stuff goes the 7BA screws etc are kind of obscure. Curious as to what you need them for? My purpose was for making darts that will accept a proprietary shaft and flight system.

Unfortunately I watch too much Youtube....
As I drink my morning coffee I watch https://www.youtube.com/user/keithappleton/videos.
FYI he may be an expert on Steam Engines... His machining practices leave a lot to be desired....

He often repairs Stuart Model steam engines.... So I found a half finished 10v... When I get the taps Ill finish be able to fix a couple of the poorly threaded or cross threaded holes that allow the engine to leak real well but not run all that well...

I was wondering if I wanted to try my hand at building some of those nifty models...
And repairing this one has answered that question....These darn models remind me of working on clocks....
I do not like using tweezers to install nuts and bolts....

So that sir is why I need BA taps and dies....

Ok sir went out and found my taps. I have bought from both the BF in England and their subsidiary here I got a set of 2BA from both places. I got two different manufactures so I looked them up one is Volkel and the other is Totem. The Totem are made in India but are HSS not the carbon steel. The Volkel I am not sure of but they are HHS also. The 7ba I have is marked Apex UK HSS couldn't find much on Apex but box says for industrial use only  for what that's worth. They all have seemed to work well and are sharp.
