In the picture is a device I came up with 15 years ago and use almost every day. I call it my layout fixture. I use the edgefinder to find the x and y surfaces and "0" out my DRO and go to town doing layout and boring work rarely using the edgefinder again. 1/4-20 tapped holes and clamps are also incorporated in the fixture for holding down the work. I even do light milling using this fixture.

Nice one Jim, I bet that has saved you hours of set up time, especially on repetative jobs.
I always bless the day I milled a true slot in the base of my milling vise, and fitted a ground bar that just snuggly fits the Tee slots - saves all that clocking in [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/smile.gif"%20alt="[/img]
