Hello, here is a flycutter I made on my lathe with a milling vise on the crosslide so I can face things off. It's made of aluminum and I was wondering if the cutter would flyout when I tried to use it but it works well. The set screws have to go though . scott m.

Thanks Marty, it works better than I thought it would. I have just used it for light stuff, and will make a steel one for more heavy duty work. One thing I did learn from building it was how bad my chuck jaws are worn, the cutter was rubbing pretty bad on the "backstroke". Now I have to make a grinding fixture for the jaws . Scott.

Nice work Scott, is it balanced pretty well? Your chuck looks just like my three jaw and the jaws are worn badly on it too. Best thing I did was to get a four jaw over a year ago and have never taken it off.
Michael

Michael, it's is probably lopsided but I spin it on a slower speed and use light cuts. I tried it with high rpms but didn't care for that much. I have to figure out the right angles for the cutter because it leaves a cheesy finish . I have been sent some info about grinding that chuck and a fixture for holding the jaws with the pressure towards the center line so I think I'll make a grinder attachment next . I have a four jaw but only use it to hold odd shaped things. Scott.
