I finished this up tonight and thought I would share. Perhaps it might lend to someone else's needs as well.
I bought one of those rocker type spot welders (ala eBay) but I think they were made for small women or perhaps children to operate. The center height is a very low 32" Anyway I decided to build a base to raise it to a more normal American height, roughly 42". But I wanted a larger base to prevent tipping. The drawer idea came after the fact but I managed to make it work out. The base framework is 1-1/2" sq tube, the upper framework is 1" sq tube. and everything else is 1/2" solid sq stock except for the "runners" that the spotwelder sits on. Those are 1/2" sq tube. Then I skinned it in 16ga sheet. All in all I like it. I decided to add the drawer after I had the spot welder bolted to it and sitting on the floor. But I figured with tips and hoses and whatever else, it couldn't hurt. Keep in mind this was not really a planned project and I didn't spend a lot of time on it. In other words, it could have been built better. But all the same I'm happy with it. The spotwelder is slated for a few modifications as well. The first thing that is going to go is the footpedal. With the new base on it, it is about 2' off the floor. I'm converting it to pneumatic with an electric solenoid and footswitch. This will also allow me to spot larger material.

These aren't bad. They will spot 2 pieces of 14 ga together.

Lee, I think that's a fine looking stand, especially with the drawer and glides. From the perspective of the photo you posted of the welder I imagine you would get a hunchback working on that thing !

Thanks. It is definitely short. The stand brings the bottom arm up to about 42" which is a much more comfortable working height. I think the stand will look better when it is painted to match the spot welder though. I need to add a handle to the drawer yet. Maybe add racing stripes and some flames?........
