Got tired of using my 3/4 wrench to tap my drawbar to unseat it so I made a drawbar wrench/hammer.

The parts are 7/8 brass rod a cheap tiawan 3/4 impact socket and and a piece of titanium rod that I get at work. I first bored out the impact socket and single point threaded it. Then I threaded the brass to fit the socket then drilled and threaded through both the socket and brass to make sure they would never loosen from one another. I then threaded the titanium rod and using locktite for studs I screwed them together.

All in all it turned out ok except for the knurling on the handle but since my knurls are pretty dull and the titanium is hard I didn't worry about doing it again as the crappy looking knurls will do there job just fine.

I bet it works good.

Works much better than the old craftsman wrench I was using. The threads that hold the brass to the socket are 28 tpi. If I thread something that doesn't need any specific thread pitch I usally use 28 tpi becasue it seems to be a good all around pitch and since my lathe does not have a QC gear box I have to change gears to get the different thread pitches so I tend to leave it on 28 most of the time.

One question though, aren't those impact sockets hardened? Seems like it would be tough to thread if it's hardened steel.

Impact sockets are softer than a good normal socket which is why they down chatter when you are hitting them with a impact. Also I am sure the tiawan impact sockets are even softer. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to be able to bore it and thread it but after doing a test run and seeing how easy it was I knew it was going to be doable.

Thanks for the info on the impact sockets. I just may have to copy your tool.

How much lighter is the titanium over using a steel handle? It looks good especially with the titanium handle. How does titanium stand up to stress and time? Is it harder but more brittle than steel?

Brilliant!! I have seen guys braze a huge blob of brass on the open end of their 3/4" wrenches to act as a soft hammer, but yours is a far better idea.
