Briggs & Stratton vanguard V Twin 16 hp spark plug firing

Post by atsfsteam »

:?: I do not have a manual for a Briggs & Stratton vanguard v twin 16 hp to find out Spark plug firing order. Does each plug fire on one revolution of the crank or one fire on one revolution and the other plug fire on the second revolution? I know that a Onan two cylinder fires both plugs on every revolution of the crankshaft. :?:

with a single bearing on the crank both pistons are in time with each other i would expect on spark per rotation. the cam times the 2 180 deg apart.

Your question was already answered by links. These engines seem good but were put in difficult situations. I had a post earlier about the stress upon the crankshaft in typical L/G tractors. Be forewarned if you see this. Well not that but another has seen what you may. Extreme stress on the vertical shaft. That is because the rest of the mower was junk. Harried homeowner had no other way to compensate for belt slippage than to tighten it further. The heat was warping the drive pulley and nothing could compensate for that. All this heat is delivered back into the engine.
Never should have been this way. One little step of another idler and slightly longer belt would have helped. But we are talking mowers which can't handle any taller than 5 or 6" without choking and gagging. The range was SO small. Then the mandrels units sucked bigtime and before they failed completely, put further stress on the engine.
Gee my little rant.. good engines unless they are being killed.
