Was thinking of purchasing a mill-lathe machine for use making Harley parts, including axle necks, triple trees, frame adjusters, etc.--any thoughts/suggestions? I have machining/CNC experience, but not with this particular machine--wondering if it will do what I want and if it's an affordable solution or not?
Thanks!

I've got an old metric Smithy, AT-300 I think it's called.
I bought it from a friend and got a good deal. It's fun to play with.
If you want a Smithy to play with and find enjoyment in making your own stuff like I do and you're limited for space you should buy a 3/1.
(I'm planning a bigger shop and moving up to dedicated machines.)
I've been reading about Grizzly and Shopsmith machines and you should compare.
If you're hoping to save money - forget it - the setup time and tooling will kill you vs what you can buy the parts for.
Better to pick up a part time job to finance your HD adventures.
There are guys with 'real' machinery selling necks & TT's on The Horse.
