tooling for 44142

Post by d9d »

I'm finding it really hard to find tooling for the 4 post tool holder that came with my 3in1. Anyone have any suggestions on what to get or have worked for them int eh past?

thanks,

If by "tooling" you're refering to turning tool bits, standard HSS or carbide 3/8" tool bits work OK for HF44142. To get started I bought this set from Grizzly: G9776
http://www.grizzly.com/

I also bought a flycutter w/R8 shank from Penn tools that accepts the 3/8" tool bits.

Grizzly was also the source of a set of TIN HSS end mills: G9763

The 44142 accepts standard 3/8" tool bits, you may have to shim them up a bit to get perfect alignment. Using standard collets and a 6" kurt clone vise when using the mill does get frustrating. The tool to vise distance requires full quill travel, not so hot. I've just ordered a set of 2-4-6 blocks to raise the work up toward the mill tooling.
Here's a link for Penn tools: http://www.penntoolco.com

HF provided a quick change R8 collet set, using that extends the mill enough toward the vise enough so I don't need the blocks, but it's limited to 5/8" max mill size. Grizzly sells a version that handle larger mills but it's double the price.
