I'm going to look at a Smithy CB-1220 XL.
Is there anything special on these machines to look for? Any known weaknesses or impossible to find parts?
The owner says it's missing the belt cover and that the tailstock has some play in it. I'm not terribly concerned about the tailstock since I think that 90% of what I'll be doing will be smaller pieces that won't need it anyway. His asking price is only $400 so even if I end up needing to replace or repair the tailstock, I think it'll still be a decent deal assuming there's no other major problems.
I'm definitely a noob when it comes to metalwork, but I have a bunch of old woodworking machines, so I am familiar with basic inspection when it comes to things like bearings, bed wear etc.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Hello spongerich,
Welcome to the forum.
If you don't mind a little work to get that Smithy back into shape,
I would grab it, if you can get it for $400.00 or maybe try to get
it down to $350.00. There is a great READ on another Smithy
CB-1220 XL that you might want to read to help you make your
your mind up.
