Fellow Steamers,

Up for sale is a 3/4 scale 2-6-0 mogul that I've had for about 7 years. I bought it down in Florida from the daughter of the original builder, Richard Schelfo. Schelfo, who worked at the Gary, Indiana plant of US Steel, completed the engine in 1956 from his own design. This engine is one of a kind, and has a charm that might be a little hard to understand at first. The engine is a coal burner, with an all-copper, true Belpaire boiler. It is a VERY free steamer on soft coal, and builds up to operating pressure in about 15-20 minutes. This engine is equipped with a hand pump in the tender and axle pump on the engine. It has a BAKER valve gear for changing direction, and is equipped with slide valves, and a mechanical lubricator. This would be a good first steamer for someone entering the hobby, or for someone looking for something different aside from the engines in circulation around the various Northeast clubs. I ran this engine a few times at the NJLS and enjoyed myself quite a bit. The engine needs some work to address what appears to be significant blow-by, which developed after several running sessions. I'm guessing new piston rings are what's needed. I'm selling the engine to finance the building of another locomotive as well as a new engine lathe. I'm asking $4000. Pictures below.

P.S. a few body pieces are shown missing from the engine (cab, running board, e.t.c.) these were removed to aid in inspection. I have these and they will be assembled when the engine goes to the buyer. I will also try to include some copy's of the original builder's sketches, if I can dig them up.

Thanks,

jlakes85
