0-4-0 Live Steamer For Sale

Post by Pontiacguy1 »

For sale is an 0-4-0 coal fired live steamer built mainly from Mercer castings and plans. The drive wheels are Little Engines switcher drivers. This locomotive was built by the late George Towne, a retired tool and die maker and member of the Mid-South Live Steamers. It was built about 10 years ago, has only been operated approximately 1 to 2 times per year since that time, and has very few run hours on it. It has been in my possession since it was built.

Specifications: Gauge: 7 1/2", Cylinders: 2" bore X 3" stroke, Drive wheel diameter: 7", Boiler: 7" diameter steel boiler with copper tubes, Water Delivery: Axle pump and Superscale Injector, Brakes: mechanical brakes on tender, Valve Gear: Stephenson, locomotive weight: approximately 325 lbs.

This is a great workhorse locomotive, powerful for its size, and easy to handle, and a very good steamer. It would make a perfect first locomotive for a new person in live steam, or as a smaller locomotive for traveling. It has a 4-chime whistle, a working headlight, bronze couplers front and rear, and plated rods. The tender trucks are MCC trucks, modified with flat-backed wheels for the brake system. The tender has been powder coated, and will hold approximately 8 gallons of water, which will last a long time.

Price: $10,000 for locomotive and tender

Middle Tennessee, USA.

Would be willing to meet someone at the Mid-South Live Steamers track in Columbia, TN to demonstrate this locomotive. Just give me enough notice.
