Charlie...just had a friend get some VERY NICE etched plates from Robert Dustin. RD is also known for float-on decals. Check out the following site: http://www.finescalerr.com/. Hope that's what you're looking for helps you. Carl B.

Dave (our own Trainman4602) did them out of brass using ferric chloride to etch them.

Go to his youtube page:
https://www.youtube.com/user/trainman4602/videos

and search for the following terms:
etching
builders plate
number plate

and you will find his videos on it.

If you can, or have access to 3D drawings, having them wax printed and lost was cast gives an outstanding looking plate.

The line under the 'o' on the painted plates is 0.2mm wide, and has a 1mm stand off.

Peter

A good way of making a builders plate would be 3D printing in the long run it is cheaper. They can do it it brass from ShapeWays

Just spoke with Robert and he is sending a catalog. Pretty much a done deal after talking with him. I may have side plates made for the cab to replace the painted DC&W

Charlie, Duston doesn't have a big advertising presence, has been supplying builder's plates and similar for probably 30 years or more.

I bought Builder's Plates for my Allen ten-wheeler 35 years ago from Robert. At that time he was also selling beautiful decal sets for rolling stock too. I purchased quite a few sets for my rolling stock. I don't think he does that anymore. Sure wish he did though. They were beautiful decals and heavy duty for our bigger rolling stock. I found a catalog he had sent me back in January 1981.
