Post by Pipescs »

I am working on a new boxcar for the American.

Is there anyone out there that produces paint mask from artwork?

I just used a mask made by Connie to letter our club water tower tank. Worked really well and had a minimum of touch-up after removing the mask. Photos show the process and the red paint from the touch up is still wet in the finished product. Still have to touch up a little white! A never ending process for a perfectionist! Any local sign shop that cuts vinyl lettering should be able to do that for you.

There is special vinyl masking material that is less sticky than normal vinyl and also semi transparent. Have a vinyl shop cut you a paint mask with it. I have some for my cutter, but I'm not taking commercial orders at this time...

Also, I should mention that is a very nice script logo. If it hasn't already been converted to digital vectorgraphics, it will be some number of hours to do it justice by hand. Automated convert-to-outlines algorithm from a scan will usually make a big mess of something like that.

See if Connie will deal with it first, if you don't have any luck elsewhere, PM me and I'll consider taking it on.

Best,

Connie is going to cut them, She is backlogged and they will not be available until October. Not an issue as the project has a way to go.

Good post. I'm a ways out as well, but need to eventually source decals or paint mask for my 1/6th scale S12 in Southern Pacific colors. I'd like the #'s, SP scripts, and round "safety first always" and "look, listen, and live" circles that go on each bulkhead.
Can anyone recommend a stencil for the more generic letters used to label capacities and such?

Connie did mention she would match up the fonts for the graphic. I am assuming she has a library of such and I am sending her photos of the markings I want besides the Kelly Plow photo.
