1" Scale Bobber kit ****ALL SOLD****

Post by sbalkum »

I had a need to build a 1" scale bobber caboose and I had access to a laser cutter/etcher. I determined it was easy enough to push the go button 5 more times and make a handful of kits available.

The design was inspired by the DL&W bobbers of the late 1890s. The kit is comprised of laser cut 1/4" and 1/8" Baltic Birch plywood for all large or structural components, basswood for window and door trim, and acrylic sheet for window panes. All critical mating points use tab-and-slot and box joints for strength. The grooves between wood planks along the body walls and end platforms are laser scribed.

The kit comes with all of the wood and acrylic parts. The builder is responsible for the metal parts for a frame, railings, pedestals, journals, wheels, and couplers. The construction guidelines details all of the included parts with lots of photos and may be found here.

These kits are packaged and ready to ship from Texas. I am offering these kits for $200 each, USPS shipping to domestic addresses included. (Other shipping methods extra.)

Very nicely done, Stephen!
I bet it looks good with A&TC 71, the 0-4-0 your grandfather, John Enders, built.
#71 was the first live steamer I ever ran, at the New Jersey Live Steamers while Fred Springer owned it.

It does look good indeed! Here is a family picture taken at the HALS Memorial Day meet last year with five generations of live steamers represented.
My grandfather, John Enders, is represented by #71 which he built in the mid-60s.
I am holding my two month old granddaughter, Harmony Balkum, followed by my son, Alexander, and my mother, Carolyn Enders Balkum.

It is a shame no one makes a kit like that for 1.5" scale.

For me, since this is my hobby, not my job, it is all about having access to a laser cutter with a large enough bed. Hopefully, another opportunity will come my way in the future.

All sold.

I may have access to another, slightly larger laser engraver/cutter soon.

I just had the opportunity to see one of your kits recently purchased by a member at NJLS...very nice! I'm sorry I didn't buy one when they were available, I'll be quicker on the draw next time they come up for sale.

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!

The construction guidelines document contains the exact pictures you are looking for: http://highironranch.com/bobber/BobberC ... elines.pdf
The pictures show every piece laid out with a list of what is in each picture.
