ALLEN MODELS New Leave Springs.
Today we revived the last of the leave springs that we are Supplying to the Hobby. These are .040" thick Leaves, Blue Clock Spring Material As all Allen Models engines call for. Each leave is the same price do to the labor to cut and punch these leaves. Most may not know this is very hard material. Many Punches were replace to make these. Price per leave is $2.00 so a pack of 9 leaves use on the Chloe and the Fitchburg Northern is $18.00. Consolidation takes a Alu casting, that we do not supply anymore. Now you can have working springs for this model and others. American is the same way, cast Alu part. Now working springs. All springs have the 3/16" hole punch in the center. 22 sizes
Size are 1", 1 1/4", 1 3/4", 1 7/8", 2", 2 1/4", 2 3/8", 2 1/2", 2 3/4", 2 7/8", 3", 3 1/4", 3 3/8", 3 3/4", 3 7/8", 4", 4 3/4", 4 7/8", 5", 6", 6 3/16".
As per Allen Models needs this will cover All of our Models. Plus other engines. IF you do not see the size you need, we do not have it. Set up to run other size can be done, but set up cost for tooling to run parts plus Labor. Not to be sold at the same prices as these.
If you are in the build or have use the old style cast Alu and want to change your set up, Give us a call. OR order off the Web site.
Shipping will be in small flat rate box for one locomotive set. Price of freight is $8.00
Thank You

I'd have to guess whatever the print calls for...
Still surprised no one has tried water jetting these leaf springs. I'll be doing this for my engines.

Re: ALLEN MODELS New Leave Springs.
We look into water jet and also Laser cut. You need to buy sheets, Once it starts to cut into a sheet, if it moves, Loss of products. Plus the cost of blue spring steel in sheets come's in 12" X 12" squares and other shapes. So there is a lot of scrap to that process.
I found different outfits that sell the 1/2" wide stock, some with sharp edges and this one with rounded edges. Much nice to look at and handle. So a mile of this and off and the way we go for making all these Leaf sizes. Leaves are cut to length then run though the punch press. Each size 500 are made. This is the starting level we are stocking. Future will be more of the sizes that that two or three per pack.
All these are 1/2" wide and .040" thick.

Re: ALLEN MODELS New Leave Springs.
you don't want to do this any way but by purchasing a roll of 1/2" steel and cutting / punching as you go as Steve is doing. Getting this stuff to stay put under a water jet is a nightmare...
if you are only doing for one loco, you can make a jig and carbide drill the center holes if you don't want to make the punch.
cutting to length (again for one loco), you can scratch the cut length, nick with a dremel grinding wheel, then SNAP the length off.
Finish the ends square and to exact length on a belt sander.

Re: ALLEN MODELS New Leave Springs.
We are taking Pictures and soon Loading site for all the Spring combinations to order for working Spring leaves.
This is for
4-4-0 American that was once only in cast Alu now in working springs.
0-4-0 Switcher or yard engine.
2-4-0 the Harpur
2-6-0 Mogul
2-6-0 Fitchburg Northern
4-6-0 Ten Wheeler
2-8-0 Consolidation.
O-4-2 Chloe.
Plus in the future you can order any leaf spring from 1" to 6 3/16 length. For other brands or for the Kit Basher engines.
All leaves are the same price $2.00 ea. Its the labor and punching holes.
This was a big investment to do. The hobby has in the past these. But do to cost to keep up stock and inventory. Also sales of Company's it has been lost. We hope that this will fill a big hole in the hobby.

I got away from punching holes in blue clock spring steel a long time ago, its to hard on the punches..and you break a lot of them.....put mine in the mill, in a vise, and drill with carbide drills.....its just as quick, and I go thru minimal amount of drills
