Shay wheel castings
2.5 scale shay engine wheel castings. Looking for $45 a piece. 12 castings available.
Re: Shay wheel castings
The wheel centers shown in the last post are scaled from Lima Card 9936 and are Lima pattern number 0733. They were used for 26" and 26.5" drivers.
I am the draftsman who scaled the drawing and have two sets of the castings in my shop. They are about 5" OD and the plan is to use a 5.5" pipe with a 0.5" wall for the tire.

Re: Shay wheel castings
Dan,
Thanks for adding additional details about the wheel castings. Here are a few more facts for the forum members.
These spoke wheel center castings are used for Lima Plan 703 and include Shay locomotive S/N’s 715, 797, 857, 861, 915, 940, 1551, 1579, 1616(2ft), 1638, 1689, 1695, 1746 , 1839, and 1926.
For anyone following the popular 2.5” scale Mich-Cal #2, it might be of interest to note that S/N #797 was Mich-Cal #5, a 3-cylinder NG Class B.
Readers might be interested to know that these wheel castings are the first set of a series of 1/5th scale Shay castings being developed for Plan 703 builders. The castings are museum quality, based on Dan’s CAD drawings of actual LLW blueprints. The wheels are cast in iron and guaranteed.
Castings for the drawheads and bolster guides are also available. Truck journal box castings and bolster castings are now in process. Next up will be boiler accessories, including the smokebox door, steam dome, sand dome, bell and stack saddle.
There are currently five builders on this project. Everyone interested in joining the group will be welcomed. Please contact me at clark5@zoominternet.net

Re: Shay wheel castings
Here are the drawhead and bolst guide castings. I am working on the truck pedistal now.
Re: Shay wheel castings
Dave,
My drawheads and bolster guides arrived today. They are spot on and true to the Lima patterns many thanks. I can hardly wait for more truck parts.
For those who did not check on the shop numbers for Plan 703 the engine is a 3-9" x 8" bore and stroke. The pattern is very close to the early 8" x 8" engines. The draftsman at Lima actually used the VERY same drawing for both the early 8x8 cylinders and the 9x8 cylinders. The drawing card for the 8x8 is 108 and the drawing card for the 9x8 is 138. The only thing changed is the middle digit and the size of the bore and cylinder cover and stud spacing. They did not make a new drawing they just changed the numbers on the old card.
The point I am making is any of the early 3-8x8 engines are possible with this casting set. Anyone for the later Gilpin Shays???
