Will be buying it in pieces, and starting with the engine. I figure if I can make the engine, the rest is easy.

Looks like a Michigan-California shay kicked up a bit without the T boiler and a nice tank. The domes give it a more modern appearance. I have a 1.5 scale Michigan-California shay that was never finished. The thought of kicking it up to a very rare 3 truck version with more water capacity is a serious thought. The more original factory tank and more modern domes will certainly give it a look much like your beautiful shay.

Agreed, having it as a third truck would also long legged people such as myself more tail room. But for now I will stick with the plans, worry about kit bashing later.

Actually the 20Ton Shay is over 50% bigger than the Mich-Cal. If you look at Mill Creek Central's site under Logging meet you will see both Shays. Take a close look and you will see the difference. A three truck would put you too far back from the controls.

If you are a big person ( I weight 170 lbs. ) you might want to consider the engine Tim Szabo in Ohio is building. It is a Class B 45 Ton Narrow gauge Shay. I have seen the frame on the trucks. WOW is it going to be big. He is using the castings from the 20 Ton except for the engine base which he has fabricated.
