WTB a Project

Post by whitey » Tue Mar 06, 2012 11:56 am

A 76 year old 1/2 senile old man :) knows very little about trains. But does have machine tools etc.
3/4 inch scale please.
Due to my lack of knowledge on trains. I think it would be best to find a project that needs restored. I am sure someone has one that they will never get to due to new projects. Smile I would consider any
models even if it's in pieces. It would at least give me a sample of parts I would need to make.
as a second choice I will still consider a project. Thanks Whitey PM or E-Mail whanson@plainstel.com

Good place to find those is on discover live steam:

Right now, you have the opposite ends of the spectrum
An 0-6-0 Rob Roy:

and a 2-10-4:

The Rob Roy is selling for what is probably what the boiler materials would go for. The plates are all formed, and it comes with a pile of extra parts you can sell to get some of your money back.

Here's what a completed one looks like:

Believe it or not, that monster is 3/4" scale and 3-1/2" gauge. It looks like it could be a larger scale because it's such a big engine it's modeled on.

I thought about the Rob Roy, but I have too much on my plate just learning the machining skills without having to build a boiler, but those parts are a nice start.

Sorry Dan orginally I had said a 3/4 or 1 @1/2 inch scale. Before I realized how heavy most of the 1@1/2 inch scale was.. Sorry for all the confusion. But I just didn't know. Whitey
