Mid-South Live Steamers' 50th Anniversary Meet

Post by Pontiacguy1 »

Everyone is cordially invited to the Mid-South Live Steamer's 50th Anniversary Celebration and meet! We would like to encourage those who may not have been to one of our meets in a while to attend this special event. We would especially encourage those with locomotives and rolling stock connected to the early years and early members of the club to attend. We want to see a bunch of those old steamers that used to polish the rails at Maury County Park back on those tracks again.

Dates: May 3-7, 2016, Maury County Park in Columbia, Tennessee. We have approximately 15,000 feet of 7 1/2" gauge ground level track, enough steaming bay room to accommodate more than 50 locomotives, and ample storage for cars and other motive power. There are two loading/unloading facilities for you to use.

May 3rd and 4th there will be no public rides given. Thursday, May 5th, public ride times will be from 10AM-4 PM. Friday, May 6th, Public ride times will be from 10 AM until 1 PM. Saturday, May 7th Public ride times from 10 AM until 4 PM.

Friday afternoon, starting at 1 PM, we are going to have a parade of trains, with everyone encouraged to participate.
Friday night will be a catered dinner, followed by speeches by our surviving founding members, and a dedication of a new plaque to recognize and honor the founders. The dinner will be approximately $10 per person, and you must pay your money and put in your plate order no later than Thursday, May 5th at 5 PM.

If you have any questions you can direct them to me or go to http://www.midsouthlivesteamers.com for more information.

Scott,
I will definitely be there! My first visit to a MSLS event was about 1970 at Austin Barr's track in Arkansas. Was a regular visitor to the meets in Columbia after 1974.

We're going to have a banquet on Friday night of the meet where we will honor the 9 Charter members who started the Mid-South Live Steamers back in 1966. The Banquet meal will consist of your choice of BBQ chicken or Pulled Pork BBQ, along with the following sides: Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and a dessert. There will be tea to drink.

The meal cost is $10 per plate. If you are planning on attending the banquet and eating the catered meal, we will have to have your order for the meal in and paid for before 5 PM on Thursday, May 5th so that we can tell the caterer how many want chicken and how many want pulled pork. They have to have adequate time to prepare everything.

There will be 50th anniversary t-shirts for sale as well. More to come on that later...
