Radio Control for an RMI engine?

Post by FLSTEAM »

Has anyone adapted radio control to an RMI electric engine? How do you do it?

John,
I can`t answer your question but, if you are going to the winter meets, ask around for Bill Matson, usually runs two green P Cove boxcabs. I think named Newall and Rocky River. Bill and Several guys of the NEFLS (Bostwick)group run a pretty simple and inexpensive system that runs good. Bill also has cars, elec. switch controls and a few other things for sale on a Vendors site.
Hope this helps.

David Gehrke who owns West Bend Railcar Shops in Wisconsin, runs his electric diesels using wireless radio control. Might want to contact him.

RMI also has their own radio control system - looks like a standard RMI electric control panel except it's in a box with an antenna. It is being used in my Flintridge & Portola Valley RR video, skip to 7:34 or use this direct link to skip to that time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeS3DPr ... be&t=7m34s Can't really see the controller itself except in the distance in the engine house.

You might contact RMI to what a retrofit would cost and entail.

JohnB,
Feb. 12th till now, haven`t you been to the Bostwick track yet. You could see in person the RC systems some of the guys there use. I believe they are quite simple and In-expensive compared to others.

Good place to look for components. A friend of mine has just set up his new Switcher RC. Everything came from this place including motor controller.
