Thanks Mike, this loco came about when I was looking for ideas for a new minimal. But being a scale model I can't show it there. On the other hand my 100 feet of track can't be shown there either, It will only be hauling passengers (my grandchildren).
Have a good one....John.

As I said earlier my power at this stage will be battery, but I have just spent some time sitting and procrastinating. I think that I will design a system in which a number of power options can be used.
With my experience with the last loco I reckon on it taking about an hour with the right setup to change power source.
WHY? Well it's the challenge, you have to keep the grey cells working. In fact of recent times I have been looking at building a flash steam powered turbo/generator. OK, that's another power cradle to build.
At my rate of building I will have gotten my 100th birthday card from the Monarch before it's finished.

With batteries....

Previous loco setup, Fuel tank mount used to mount alternator....

The controls are simple, the PWM controller that is used for the battery setup could also control the field of the alternator for voltage variation. A couple of plugs on the firewall would make changeover straight forward.
Enough rambling on from an old man now.....

Hi 6491 the prints came thru just fine the dim. that I thought I knew, was wrong to me by 1 foot , I'm making an engine for a club I belong to we have a 15" gage Cagney an amusement park engine that was given to the club , gobs of track , and permission from our lessor (20 year lease) to build a RR the Cagney needs work so I volunteered to rebuild a simple gas powered engine that was part of the gift , so this engine is what I'm going to be building modified "slightly" . Presently I have a frame that is 60" long X 24" wide with 2 axles , journal boxes , frame mounts for same .

That's great, by railway standards they are only small. Eight foot six inches by four foot and six foot to top of engine cover (bonnet for us here in Oz, hood for you guys). That is frame length.
When I get time I will post up the drawings for people who may be interested. I also have many hundreds of photo's if there is any part you want details of.
My building is in hiatus mode at the present time, my bucket list just keeps getting longer.
This is my other baby.....

Hi John, tried to open your Facebook page via the link above, but got an error message saying the content isnt available, or I don't have permission. I wonder if your train stuff is open to the public for viewing??

Thanks

Yes, it has been some time since I have posted here.
Just a quick photo to show that it actually got finished. This was taken Easter 2017, I have now started building the loco that was built in 1938 as the protoype to test the design.
Full coverage of the build can be found on one of my Facebook pages.

This is the little guy that I am working on now. Still 2/5 size, 4.8 inches to the foot.
After about 4 years of searching this is the only photo in original form but it has good detail.

John, seems like a lot of similarities between your Australian 24” sugar cane and WW2 railroading equipment and the 600 mm trench railway equipment of WW1. Just wondering if you have researched the WW1 trench railway history at all? It’s really quite fascinating how much detail is preserved, and to what extent trench railways contributed to the outcome of the War. Lots of construction design on line and also several UK web sites document current preservation efforts.
