Youngstown Boxcar Door

Post by FLtenwheeler »

Does anyone make 7-foot and 8-foot Youngstown boxcar doors in 1-1/2" scale.

Thanks

Tim

The style and construction features of a Youngstown Steel Door would be dependent on what era of railroading is being modeled.
Youngstown Steel Door made a 6 foot, and an optional 8 foot door in the 1940's. The doors came wider on later and larger style cars.

As I'm packing up my railroad archives for a move, here is some additional material on the subject.

Thanks for the pictures John.

I am modeling a 1937 50-foot Auto Boxcar with a 14-foot double door.

Tim,

Your door(s) will be a fun project.

If you want to get down to the "sixteenths" on your door dimensions, the width of the left auxiliary door is 7'-11-9/16" wide.
The width of the main door on the right is 7'-11-1/16" wide.

Who will notice? Well, now that this is posted, everyone will ; )
