Hello, Gerd.
The sand dome looks great! I don't know how you find all the time to dedicate to your fine work.

Hi Harold,

It's just a kind of live planing, setting priorities and attitude.

Each day I don't have time or desire for model railroading, I do all the other live obligations like housework. Also I don't watch TV and don't play pc games any more. So once I've time and desire to work or play with my model trains, there's no other work to do and I can spend most spare time on my Shay project for example.

At last I specified each Thursday to spend an evening for my hobby. My girl meets some of her girlfirends to watch TV the same day and I can work on my Shay. I do the same if my girl isn't at home on a weekend.

Well, I don't have kids today and they would change a lot in my time management.
But actually I live my youth and I do what I like on each day. And that's working on my Shay to get her running ;-)

Bye, Gerd

Hello,

some small progress was done during the last days after the summer break. The cab is finished now and I also added the smoke box front cover and hand rails. Next I'll add the head lights and smoke stack before I'll start with the steam engine by making the crank shaft.

More detals are shown on my homepage at http://www.gerds-modellbahn.de/shay/index.htm

Hello,

the last days, I rebuild my caboose in the BCL&RR-workshops. At the end of August, I'll go to US train special open day on our club layout. So I spend some time to rebuild and finish my caboose for this event.

This two pictures shows where I've started from.

At first, I was very unhappy with the big copula. The roof material was not finished until yet and the interior wasn't build. I was unhappy too with the narrow windows in the end doors.

So I started work and rebuild the whole caboose into this new version. The new copula was inspired by old C&S-caboose. The interior was made from plywood and wooden stripes.
