I have a car equipped with the MCC modern trucks. Being used to lubing the trailing truck of my Chloe routinely, I wonder what the maintenance regime should be for the MCC trucks or is that a sealed bearing in there?

Thanks,
Gerry

Mcc trucks have a sealed bearing.

Give the axles a spin every now and then, If it does not roll freely, pull the truck apart and change the bearing.

If the bearing gets dry, there is a chance the bearing race will spin on the axle and thus wear out the axle. I had to make a new axle last year because of this.

I usually carry a couple of spare bearings with me just in case. I apply loctite between the bearing race and the axle.

I have a riding car with these trucks on them, and after 2 years, all the bearings are shot and the end plates damaged from shaft rubbing. 90% of the time, the trucks carried only a propane tank, very little passenger weight.

The bearings do not appear to be properly setup to handle angular displacement.

I am not going to repair them, but do something else.

My replacements may not look as nice, but will last a lot longer.

On all My MCC trucks I have found that if you Just Take out all the springs, take the wheel sets out and just put some grease between the cast iron side frames & the sealed ball bearings. This will allow the bearings to slide & twist a little giving better running & no Problems after heavy use & Loads .Also make sure The Nuts On The axles that hold the wheels on are tight against the wheels .
I Hope this helps

First off I'll state I personaly don't have any MCC trucks. But I do have a few sets of ball bearing trucks including a modified pair of Allen archbars. The week before a major meet I'll check all rolling stock for loose hardware, couplers, trucks ,ect. Just because a truck uses a sealed bearing for less drag it doesent mean no maintainence.

And as far as MCC trucks are concernd I'll never use them. I've seen to many springs lost, to many wheels loosen and to many axles/ side frames ruined from spun bearings. If youv'e got them they can be made to work. If your looking for new trucks there are many better offerings on the market.
