In the view above, (previous page) front of the car is to the left. This is a single seat car. The main body is a bit over 5 feet long. Draw-bar couplers swing from the ends of the main body. Each side will have a sliding door--slides to rear to open. The frame member above the sliding doorway will come out. The cupola sides will be hinged at their tops to swing upward to open thus creating a quite tall, easy in /easy out doorway.

Overall height of the main roof is 4 feet (Same as the Forney). Cupola adds an additional foot in height.

Nice, Bob......

I've ridden in Jack Ozanich's "bobber" caboose. http://www.srclry.com/

When you are in the seat, your eye level is at cupola window height.

Mike,
Jack's my HERO! :D ('Tho my work is nothing to compare with his.)
It was seeing pictures of his pioneer work in 7.5 ride-in which set me off.

Like his bobber, the old wooden office chair I'm using as the seat is set for a view out the cupola windows.
However, I find entry and exit is easier from a lower possession. Amazon lists an electric scissor jack which connects to a car battery. I plan to test-run the caboose for a while and, if need be, use one of those to raise / lower the seat.

Of course I'd need a battery on board, which I hadn't planned to have, opting for oil lamps instead. An idea I've considered is to run a 12 volt line under all cars with plugs to connect at each end (like an air line) to use power from the locomotive where ever needed. The engine is 24 volts but will have a 24V DC to 12V DC converter to run its lights and an air pump for the smoke unit.

When we built the 8 wheel caboose, I wanted to get my head in the cupola but the roof line would hurt your head trying to get in. We went with a electric lift from Northern tool and a 12v battery. You sit down and press the up switch and raise it till you can look out. It is great for different height people.

Tom,
What I should have said is, "Jack and all the guys at SR&CL Ry are my heroes!"
I doubt ANY one person could have done what you guys have. EVERYTHING about SR&CL is first-rate!

A "scale-like" look is a new page in Bountyland Railway's history.
I was quite happy with the quirky 1ft=1ft approach and consider it a success but I began custom building 7.5 SCALE for others and soon I found myself planning a make-over. I've been a scale model railroader for more than five decades and I guess that's really who I'll always be.

Anyway, I sold the gas mechanical and coach to finance the re-invention of BLRY.
This time, loosely based on the WW&F Rail Museum in Alna, Maine. We made a video of the old stuff to attach to the DLS ad. Here are the links.

BTW, The gas mechanical was sold to someone in Poland. As I said earlier, the coach was rebuilt as a caboose, and was sold locally.

Here is the coach rebuilt as a side door caboose.
I lowered the main roof 4 1/2 inches (from the original 5 feet) before adding the cupola.

Well Bob, John Korstange as our Mel Caswell has done most of the building of things for the RR. Without his involvement there wouldn't be any SR&RL Ry. Jack likes to do roadbed & track. Has no interest in building things. I like to work in the dirt so like track and have been Mel's helper on some of the cars. I did a few flats and others have done flats. Mel did the machine work for them. Jack is the financer for the RR.

Here is a shot of what we needed to duck under and the reason for the lifting seat.

Much of the joy of model railroading comes from allowing ourselves to believe for a moment our miniature trains are real.
Fortunate is anyone who has retained, or perhaps rediscovered, the child-like art of pretending.

Here I have used a bit of Photoshop magic, editing out the background clutter (I often pretend it isn't there) and changing to B&W as if it were 100 years ago, to share a view of my of my railroad as I see it.

No, The caboose isn't finished yet but here's a Photoshop view of how it should look next to the No 11.

Rail to Top of engine cab and rail to top of main roof of caboose are four feet. Engine + caboose are 16 1/2 feet long. Engine is 28 inches wide at widest point; caboose is 30.

It has been a long time since an up-date on Bountyland Railway but we are alive and well and much has been done.
Take a look at this video.

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!
