That's what I'm leaning toward too Richard. Haven't found any other solutions.

That is a really good idea.....I shoulda thought of it.
Jackleg drills use a friction ring of some sort, to keep the feed control from moving around on it's own. Critters vibrate....a lot.... G-D S83's use teflon o-rings, and Secan S250's (clone of the old IR 300's) use a square cut poly-ring.
Larger in diameter, but the concept is the same.

That's encouraging to hear Bill! Two other reel manufacturers it so it must be effective!.....and simple.

On the Secan drills, there was a period of time they had many manufacturing tolerance problems. We had many of the controls, that were too loose for the square cut o-ring to have enough friction to prevent movement while drilling. Some from manufacturing, as well as wear. (both ID & OD problems) Made for some mad miners....don't blame 'em a bit.
I bought a bunch of different o-rings, correct size & oversize, and different materials & durometers, so we had some options other than replacing the hard parts when we rebuilt the machines. Rebuilds were routine.... once, even twice a month.

The distributer, Boart, finally, started offering different thickness' of the friction rings.

Anyway....point is...there are lots of options to get the desired amount of friction you need....both dims of the groove & seat, and o-ring material/hardness selection.

Still can't figure why I didn't think of that before....been there....the memory is the second thing to go it appears.

Ken, thanks for the idea. That looks like a great solution. Might be challenging to do for a 10-32 like I have in the pic attached to the first post but it's worth a shot.
