Truing a wood lathe faceplate

Post by SteveM »

I needed to true up a chuck faceplate on a wood lathe, but there's no cross slide to use, and doing it on my lathe won't guarantee concentricity with the lathe spindle.

Was trying to think what I had that would move across the bed in a straight line and it hit on me to use the moving jaw of a Kurt vise.

I clamped the tool bit to the jaw, lined it all up and it did a pretty decent job.
