Please help me get a different insert for this set

Post by heavyg603 »

I bought these carbide tool holders when I first got my lathe:

The tools aren't bad but the inserts are not great. What I'd like to do is get an insert that would fit these with a smaller radius. Been staring at the insert charts for several days and cant quite figure out which one would be the best. Typically I turn 316L stainless if that helps.

Do a bit of measuring, and go here.
(Everything you wanted to know about carbide insert ID, but were afraid to ask)

A TCMT32.51 is probably what you want.

I have about ten 1/2" tool holders, and the TCMT is what they use.

You're Welcome!

And....I would recommend, that you buy good quality inserts. China & India.....tpbbht!....in my experience.
I have not done well at all with any of the cheapie import stuff....and that same rule holds true to HSS, whether it's drill bits or blanks.

:)
