Perhaps they turned it jnto a riser block after rendering it unusable for its intended purpose by dropping it and bending the shaft.

Wait a minute here. This table and fixture have possibilities. We made stuff out of damaged un affordable units all the time. I won't say we are going soft. A worm is a worm and can only turn the table at same ratio if the worm ratio is correct. It can be brass and wear into the ring of the table. This table was a mess but it has been improved and investigated. This is getting close.
FWIW I have a rotary table about 16" . It is very heavy and had been dropped. There is a section broken off the Tee way area at one corner. There is a dividing plate which broke in half. Still I keep it. It is not junk.
