Roper is one of those companies which made many great things. Not so old as to be "vintage" or unattainable, for they still work. There was actually a Roper -????? lathe built in Britain. Roper was involved or maker of the earlier, heavy duty "Sears" branded garden tractors. Refrigerators found their way across the world. It is one of those cases where a small timing defroster, or something they didn't make, dooms the whole machine. People can remember hauling out an old Roper and replacing it with something else. Then something else afterwards.
They made good stuff.

Re: Roper lathe
Late night muse; where I was going to mention transmissions from Peerless or American Hydragear powered by a Tecumseh engine. It would be a lathe out in the field, without electric power. Somebody made that sort of machine.
Re: Roper lathe
Well this is so much bologna about a Roper lathe out in a field, but. The same engine powered a compressor. You didn't see where I was going. The base had a refrigerator. Cold beverage anyone?
