Screw drivers @#!$!!
Screw drivers @#!$!!
< slight rant > I need a screw drivers, real, well made ones, I'm tired of the poop that passes as screw drivers from
Stanley, Dewalt, Milwaukee, etc..... < end slight rant >
I want screw drivers that :
Actually fit Phillips screws be they # 1, #2 and #3 Phillips
Where the tips don't shatter ( just had one do that and all I was doing was bearing down it so it wouldn't cam out of a recalcitrant screw )
That has a hex at the handle end of the shaft.
Any recommendations that fellow members own ?

I've had the big set from Wheeler Engineering, made for armorers, for over 10 years now and I love 'em. 99% of the sizes I need, which is a huge range, I can find there. Otherwise I make 'em.

Whia, Wera, Snap On any of the three are top tier tools.jcfx wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 12:16 am < slight rant > I need a screw drivers, real, well made ones, I'm tired of the poop that passes as screw drivers from

Agree, snap on if you can find it.
There are others, but if you ca't go wrong with snap on.

Whia definitely. German-made and the quality shows.
Also, Chapman gun screwdriver kits can't be beat for slotted screws; excellent hex drivers as well. I've never used their Phillips so can't recommend but, judging from what I have, they're probably very good.

Thanks for the replies, never heard of Wheeler but I do have a Chapman midget ratchet, looking at their sites they make interchangeable
tip screw drivers, which I have loads of, and not what I want at this point.
Seems like Wiha and Wera are top contenders for me, I have a Wera #2 screw driver that came as a part of a promo that I like a lot.
I'll look into SnapOn again, but I've read that SnapOn's quality has dropped

Re: Screw drivers @#!$!!
I have to admit it's been a while since I bought snap on; but 30 years ago their #2 Phillips was $5, and that was a lot of money.
Lost in a move; the rest of my snap on stuff got stolen.
[deep sigh]
I think I still have my 3/8" wrench, but we got no inch size bolts here in Portugal.
Yeah, Wera is good too.

Felo (German) has a nice wooden set which is not expensive.

I should add that the Weras I got are MADE to be beaten with hammers. They have steel caps on the butts.

I twisted the tip right off of my #3 snap-on. I'd like a new one...

Re: Screw drivers @#!$!!
Wiha also makes a line of screwchisels with the steel caps, like Wera. My only gripe with that type is that they are really heavy and provide absolutely no isolation against accidental electrical contact. But they are pretty awesome screwchisels.
IMHO Wiha is the best value. If you watch their website they often have pretty deep discounts on a few of their products. I also think that Wiha makes the best insulated screwdrivers period.
