A nice way to store reamers??
Hello, I thought I post this question last night, but it's not listed.
Anyhow, I went a little crazy buying steel chucking reamers so I could have a full set.
Most of them are sharp, but they don't have a tube. I need a way to store singles or a pack of 6 maybe.
Could someone suggest a tube or an in/out fit type of telescopic cardboard tubing, I'm not sure...
I don't know what to call what I need or where to get them. Of course I won't be able to get them sized perfect but I need a couple hundred that can hold a 9" reamer, some 12" long and maybe some 14 or 16"s long.
Thanks for any help....

I think you are just looking for telescoping endmill/drill cases? Apparently McMaster has some, but it looks like its mostly bulk from a manufacturer other than that (bottom of page):

On the other hand, why not just use a plain plastic or cardboard shipping tube from Uline:

Or you can get really fancy:

Re: A nice way to store reamers??
I could send you a case of "urgent request" envelopes.
Re: A nice way to store reamers??
The only thing which could strike and harm another cutting edge would be another one. I wouldn't trust an envelope as it may have acid or degradable substance. Yes I agree that reamers should be separate.
Re: A nice way to store reamers??
Until you find the right solution, you could roll the reamers in oiled waxed paper and secure it with a twist tie or piece of string.
I have a number of older tools wrapped in oiled paper straight from a manufacturer.

How about some clear vinyl hose of various sizes purchased in bulk reels and cut to needed lengths. Transparent, soft and the reamer would hold the coil curvature sort of straight. Keep in drawers with dividers.

I have one of these for fractional reamers by 64ths and a second one for popular sizes in pairs as over/under:
Because you always have more than one of many sizes, I also have one of these:

I like the hose idea, maybe pex pipe.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a hundred to sell right off the rip, so I'd like to put them in a nice container.
It was fine to roll them up in newspaper, there's no moisture issue or anything, but, there's about 50 .4995 reamers just to start with
And a 45 lb box full on the way, I'll get a few pics up...

Hi There,
It would be "classy" to wrap them up in VCI paper.
Good Luck!

The way I do it is to drill appropriate size holes in a block of wood and stick them vertically.
Then I place a cork with a sanded face bearing the measure because is too hard to read it off the shank. The cork cleans and retains oil on the cutting edges.
I have no problem acquiring corks, if you get my drift.
