Well, the price is what got me and the recommendations clinched it.SteveHGraham wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 7:34 pm MSC wants $474 for the set Suncoast sells for $229.
This will be a difficult choice.
Thanks for the drill bit review, Pete. No one wants to be the first guy to jump off the cliff.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
Glenn, don't set me up by asking if I think you and Bill are "special."
Bill, you have the wrong product. You dug up jobber drills. I am looking at SH501 (MSC 57648008), and MSC says list is $632.13. MSC's price is $474.10.
I was registered at MSC before Enco died, so this is mysterious. I admit, I bought nearly nothing from them, but you would think they would still love me for all the UPS trucks I filled with Enco stuff.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
So they want $411 from you and $151 from Glenn. How do you feel about subsidizing his shop?
Glenn needs to create a business, buying stuff from MSC and selling it to you at a profit. GlennW-Direct.com
I wonder what the price is for people who aren't logged in. I'll check.
Take a look!
When Enco died, MSC lost all my orders, so as far as they know, I have never bought anything. I had to have some girl who works there email my records.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
I think Glenn edited his part number, which is the one I looked up originally, but not his price when with the price edit. I can't find the MSC number I cut & pasted from this thread to post my price the first time ($142.42) .....
So....I don't think I'm subsidizing anything....
If you are not logged in, the price is $632.13 for the SH501 set.
No matter....
Log in to MSC before you price anything.
Shop.
If you get a better price elsewhere, go for it. That's what it is all about.
Don't forget any freight.
The outfit with the best price wins. Don't be bashful about telling them that EVERY TIME it happens. I do.
Pricing will vary, besides if you have registered or not, on the volume you do with 'em. Most companies work that way. The little guy....gets screwed. (Refer to Fastenal, Grainger's, etc) The big Gov't contracts get the great pricing.....us peasants....not.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
Now that we have an item number, I'm showing $410.88 from MSC as well.
Both Suncoast and MSC show the retail price at over $600.00.
The Suncoast price is definitely a good deal at $229.22.
Before you buy, you might check Hemly tool, as they sell the same set for 208.75.
Or, you can buy them from directly from Rocky Mountain for $675.46.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
Holy flying hot chips!!! IIRC I paid like $71 for my number drills (10-24-17) and around $165 for the fractionals. How the hell do they get away with charging five times that!! I bought mine from Suncoast...
Never ceases to amaze me...

That set is numbers, letters, and fractional. 115 pieces.
Apples to apples always when comparing.

Correction....appears to be wire sizes and fractional.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
MSC is $169.56 for the fractional set.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
Something screwy with the MSC description vs quantity of the set.....115 pieces should be a letter, wire, and fractional.
