Is MSC Totally Useless?
I have been separated from my machine tools for months, so maybe the problem is that I haven't been shopping, but it seems like MSC has given up on me. I am wondering if everyone else has had this experience.
After they murdered Enco, they seemed to be trying to maintain ties with Enco customers, but they never email me any more.
I spent thousands at Enco, but I suppose I'm not that exciting compared to commercial customers.

Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
Nope.
I still get notifications for sales from them.
I get free freight almost always.
They adjusted my pricing a few months ago, to the better.
Not like Enco was, but close. Sales are not 15% or 25% off anything and everything UPS-able. It's "up to" 15% or 20% off. Sometimes that amounts to little.....2% or 5%.
But I still shop, and most often, I get the best price, including freight, from MSC.

I signed up again.
I found I had a set of stub length drills in my cart. Not a bad deal. Hertels, 118-degree for $278. That got me wondering, so I went to Suncoast Tools and found Rocky Mountain Twist Drill bits with 135-degree tips for $229 plus $10 shipping.

When you compare, always compare apples to apples....or in this case, Hertel to Hertel.
When you comapre one brand to another, prices will be all over the map.

Basically, I'm comparing Chinese to everything else.
When I got started in machining, I got a bum steer and bought a 115-piece USA jobber set instead of screw machine drills. Every so often, I look around to see if there's a good price on short drills. I think I paid $215 for my Enco cobalt jobbers, so I am a little spoiled.

I bought a set of Rocky Mountain stubs last year based on a couple of recommendations. They are really good. Perfectly ground and finished and they are wearing extremely well in all materials. So I bought the number set as well!!SteveHGraham wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 4:40 pm I signed up again.

Just tryin'
Re: Is MSC Totally Useless?
I have not bought anything thru MSC, they sent some minor sales offerings but with the prices so much higher than Enco I have just moved on to shopping around. One thing I miss is Enco's insert sales.. The same part number inserts I was buying thru Enco are more than double the price at MSC.
MSC does not even send me emails anymore either and come to think of it, its been quite some time since I get a flyer in the mail.

You have to be registered, and log in, to get decent pricing.

MSC wants $474 for the set Suncoast sells for $229.
This will be a difficult choice.
Thanks for the drill bit review, Pete. No one wants to be the first guy to jump off the cliff.

How about a MSC number, and I'll take a look.

Item Total $150.55
Savings - $81.07
Shipping
to 34956-3292 (edit)

So, they are actually cheaper at MSC...

So a lot cheaper at MSC, if you register.
