Cleaning Up An Aluminium Wood Shaper Window Cill Block
I've bought an aluminium 9 degree window cill block for my wood shaper.
See photos It has some pitch build up and what look like scorch marks I don't know really. I'd like my block to look as nice as possible how can I clean it up?
Thanks.

Oven cleaner has been recommended to remove pitch buildup from saw blades. You might try that.

take the blades out, clean with detergent + scotchbrite sponge.
I killed mine today; hit a screw.
Did the rest of the work just beating the wood apart instead of cutting.

Yes is aluminum...... thanks.

Good call on the warning to not use oven cleaner. Aluminum dissolves violently when exposed to either sodium or potassium hydroxide.

Take it apart and use mineral spirits, Varsol, paint thinner type solvents. Let it soak a while and it should come off with a toothbrush or fine brass brush. Don't use your spouses toothbrush. Too aggressive with scotch bright can remove the anodizing. Your pitch buildup is quite light so should come off easily.

OK thanks, how long should I let it soak for?
Re: Cleaning Up An Aluminium Wood Shaper Window Cill Block
Try a couple hours and if some is still on after brushing then overnight. There might still be some elbow grease needed so wear the appropriate gloves and mask if you're not outside.

Inspector:
Thanks, bought a new 2.5 liter plastic paint kettle yesterday and a couple of litres of White Spirit. Took apart and put in to soak 11am today, will get a cheap toothbrush tomorrow? Would I also be OK using a nylon kitchen abrasive cleaning pad from the supermarket, you know the mild type used for getting grease off crockery, using washing up liquid and hot water? Not using hot water, washing liquid on the cill block, just White Spirit and perhaps supermarket nylon pad.
Attached out of interest some photos, couple show, have top hats ( reducers ) loose and one in top of block to fit on block as spindle is 30mm bore and block was 1-1/4" bore
Also, Is it possible to resharpen the Tungsten Carbide knives with one of these?

If yes, suggested method please?
Cheers.

That's a big cutter head. The nylon pad should work.
