Belt grinder and bench drill post mounts.

Post by toglhot »

I have a smallish shed, 5m x5m so space is limited. halfway along either side wall is a 6" post that juts out the same amount, this precludes largish machines being placed in front. When last in Aldi I spotted a small bench drill which I though would do well next to the pedestal so I mounted the bench drill on a bracket I made that clamps around the pole. I also included a couple of stickouts on which to mount two drill sets.

While I was at it I made up a similar clamp for the other post and mounted the belt grinder I made a while back.

Both work quite well, free up bench space and use space not normally used.

Now that's using your noodle! Any space gained is a real winner.

Now you no longer own a drill press, you have an old fashion Post Drill

Must be an Aussie with those safety boots. ;) Out of curiosity does the structure transmit/amplify sound from the machines? Drumming or humming noises?

Nice work. Saving floor space is always good.
Must be an Aussie with those safety boots.
A couple of days ago, I received a box containing a Garland rawhide hammer (metal with rawhide faces). The box fell four feet off a counter and landed on my left little toe. The only thing between me and the hammer's head was 1/8" of cardboard. I was barefoot, and I was standing on a hardwood floor.

You could say it hurt a little.

I am glad I started wearing safety toes last year. Too bad I don't wear them when I get the mail.

I've been wearing the safety Croc, or similar, for 50+ years and I still have all my toes, all 13 of them! No noise reverberation from either, a bench grinder would be different I'd bet.

Fine in many ways beyond describing now. That clamp says a lot too. Do this right and it ain't falling down because the machinery supports it. Screw noise and chatter, that can be insulated later. Thanks for revealing a part of really nice shop.
