What do you call this 'whattayacallit'?

Post by Electrojim »

Am I going senile or have I overdosed on Metamucil? I could have sworn that, years ago at least, one could buy little steel tubes with a specific OD and an ID to accept popular size drills. These could be pressed into softer-metal or even wood 'templates' (for want of a better term), so when you drill through these tubes the holes would be in the right spot for making multiples of something. I've looked under 'drill sleeves' and 'drill guides' and find nothing. Am I nuts? (Don't answer that!) Thanks!

They are still out there.
Drill bushings. I've bought many for manufacturing drilling fixtures, mostly from McMaster Carr.

You may still be nuts.....but hey....aren't we all?

Pro tip RE overdosing on Metamucil: you're not supposed to smoke it.

Jigs are what you press the drill bushings into (or rather a jig is the finished result of pressing drill bushings into a plate of some sort).

If it really worked, it would replace meth as the drug of choice here in northern Florida. The roads would be packed with dealers in pimped-out Mercury Grand Marquises.

I don't recommend you take it IV either; it'll really clog you up!
